Pancakes for Breakfast

A lot has happened in the past week. While in La MICA, we went out for our first night excursion. I was in the lizard/frog group and at first we didn´t find anything but then I spotted a snake and everything else started to appear. We caught to small snakes (don´t worry they are so nice- they don´t even open there mouth to pretend like they´re going to bite you), two lizards, and many frogs. I got a lot of pictures but only two turned out really well.

A few days later we left town for Panama City and then Kuna Yala. We stayed in Gamboa for the first night where we saw tons of agoutis and even a coati (you should look them up they are really neat). Then, in the morning we left for Kuna Yala which involved a cramped, crazy, bumpy ride through the mountains and a boat ride across the sea to our island. We did have to share our island but that ended up being for the best because it meant that we had toilets, showers, a dining area, and even a lady selling molas and other traditional Kuna crafts. Everyone had their own personal tent to sleep in with a sleeping pad and the ability to move it anywhere they wanted on the island- but not underneath a coconut tree with fruit for safety purposes. The tents were nice but a little to short for me, which meant that they were really short for the tall guys, also sand got everywhere which was no fun.

The first day, after picking tents, we ate lunch and swam before heading to the main island to meet with the congresos (congress). All of the Kuna were very nice and made sure that we understood that as visitors we shared the land with them and are include with the community. We also met the police that gave us a brief update on the Kuna Revolution that was to be reenacted for the next few days. Then, everyone walked around the island shopping and saying "hola" to the little children a hundred times. They also have started learning how to be salesmen at young ages. One girl was walking next to Traci and me offering fotos for a dollar.

I will right more later. My bus for Gamboa is coming and I don´t want to be left behind. Miss you all.
